At APC, we remain concerned about the proposed Prevention of Electronic Crimes Bill in Pakistan which poses grave risks to freedom of expression, the right to privacy, and access to information in the country.
APC welcomes the appointment of Mr. Joseph Cannataci as the first United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Privacy, which was announced on 3 July. Cannataci’s appointment is a historic step to address the right to privacy at the global level.
APC’s research shows that the reality of online abuse should be a serious concern for all those working on internet governance, development and access. Initiatives like ICANN’s new Domain Registration proposal are steps in the opposite direction.
