When we think about the problem of achieving affordable access to the Internet for all, the discussion often focuses on broadband targets.  These targets are moving goalposts as infrastructure improves.  Broadband used to be defined at 256Kbps, now it might be 2Mbps or 5Mbps or something else depending on who you talk to.

TLDR: The scope of impact in Africa for work is great and an inspiration for the work ahead in 2015. Similar problems exist in various African countries and similar opportunities and the incredible chance to participate in a bolder stake on the future of the continent. Local communities have a key role in shaping strategy and can teach us a lot about what works where.

Negotiating for Change

This week I am leading a four-part seminar on interest-based negotiation skills at the iHub. The short course is open to Ushahidi team members, m:lab incubatees, and the general iHub community. It builds off of two talks I gave earlier in the summer for the Pivot East and Tech4Africa conferences, but provides much more time for dialogue and a full-blown negotiation simulation.
